Lord Marshall raps politics for restraining competition
POLITICS is continuing to hold back the competitive needs of the airline industry, according to British Airways chairman Lord Marshall.
Speaking at the inaugural Gerald Fernback memorial lecture in London, Lord Marshall said the industry needs to be “liberalised” to cope with the developing market.
“I am sad to say that the politics which surround and largely control the scope of air transport are failing to keep up with the competitive needs of the industry,” he said.
He said competition and costs had caused profits on international schedules to fall by 20% compared to last year.
