Fare deals and new ships buoy up sales

Condor

Condor is taking space on Jersey Tourism’s stand to launch its 2001 Channel Islands and Brittany brochures and discuss its new alliance with Brittany Ferries. Under the terms of the deal, Condor will operate one of its fast ferries from Poole to Cherbourg daily from May to September.

DFDS Seaways

After a buoyant 12 months, the ferry operator is taking its own stand after many years sharing with the Scandinavian tourist boards. The big news from the company is a 30% increase in capacity on the Newcastle-Amsterdam route in January when the Prince of Scandinavia, a newer and bigger ship, will replace the Admiral.

Fjord Line

Agents who visit Fjord Line’s stand will get first sight of the new 2001 brochure programme, featuring cottage holidays, independent motoring tours, escorted coach tours, mini cruises, city breaks and the Norwegian coastal voyage. Prices start at £54 for a two-night mini cruise.

Irish Ferries

Irish Ferries is focusing heavily on its new ferry, Ulysses, which launches on the Dublin-Holyhead route next spring and will enable the ferry operator to increase its share of the group travel market. The ship can carry up to 2,000 passengers and 1,300 cars and will operate alongside the company’s fast ferry, Jonathan Swift. Irish Ferries will also launch its 2001 holiday programme.

P&0 North Sea Ferries

P&O North Sea Ferries will be showing off a model of its new ship, the Pride of Rotterdam, which launches in April. At 60,600 tons it will be the biggest ferry in northern Europe and will have capacity for 1,360 passengers. Sister ship Pride of Hull launches next December.

SeaFrance

Managing director Robin Wilkins and sales director Bill Laidlaw are heading the team from the Dover-Calais ferry operator, which will be exhibiting on the Maison de la France stand. Agents should look out for details of the 2001 programme, special ski saver offers and 2001 early-booking offers. The company will also have details of its new ship, due to be launched next September.
