CITY breaks to Washington DC and Baltimore in Maryland will get special attention at the Capital Region USA stand, along with third partner Virginia, which is promoting its historic towns and resort stays at Virginia Beach.
Additionally, all three Eastern Seaboard destinations are looking for more exposure in the UK market as a combined touring region from spring to autumn, when the fall foliage season competes strongly with the New England states.
Maryland Tourism also wants to capture a share of the winter shopping break market to Baltimore and state capital Annapolis, in conjunction with British Airways’ daily service between Gatwick and Baltimore.
A suggested itinerary for a four-day break includes two nights in each city, visits to various museums and the US Naval Academy in historic Annapolis, as well as shopping at the Arundel Mills outlet mall which opens this month.
The tourist office says both cities also offer a wide variety of nightlife. Visitors can join a traditional candlelight pub crawl tour in Annapolis in the run up to Christmas, and visit the bars and clubs in Baltimore’s Fells Point district.
