Take a closer look at boardrooms – women are taking control

WHO said the number of women who get to make decisions in the travelboardroom is relatively low(Travel Weekly October 4)?

Just take a look at the directorsin the independent sector – particularly the Association of Independent TourOperators (not forgetting the AITO chief executive Julia Hendry) andparticularly the independent Greek tour operators.

Kate Murdoch at Laskarina; Linda Cooper at Travelux; Patricia Cookson at CV Travel; Mary Webb at Travel a la Carte; Matilde Roberts at Argo; Catherine Secker at Catherine Secker; and myself at Filoxenia.

Then there is Julienne Young atVoyages Ilena; Lucy Edgely at Casa Cantabricas; Sue Southern at Unicorn; Jean Stanford at Stanford Skiing; Linda Hearn at Inntravel; BarbaraBrimblecombe at Individual Travellers; Nita Beecroft at Ilios Island; Janet Rankin at Corsican Places; Annabel Lawson at Andante; Dominique Wells at Dominiques Villas; and Lynette Arblaster at Arblaster and Clarke – by no means all but those I could remember without resorting to long lists.

It is worth mentioning that many of these firms are husband and wife teams but it was often the girls who set up the business!
