New Internet system setto go on sale

IN-ROOM hotel technology Quadriga has developed Europe’s first satellite-delivered digital television system offering integrated Internet access.

The company, formerly Thorn EMI, will start selling the £1.8 million Quadriga Genesis system next month after a year’s research with hoteliers, business and leisure travel agents and guests. It will be available from the autumn.

The system offers Internet access through both the television and laptop computers,as well as new movies, a pay-per-play jukebox containing 1,500 tracks, sports classicsand news.

Hotels can also use the system to promote their own services by running on-screen guest surveys, hosting pages about hotel restaurants and arranging express check-outs and wake-up calls.

Housekeeping can use it to log maintenance problems and confirm departure times.

Quadriga hopes to install the system in more than 6,000 four and five-star hotels in Europe and the Middle East and already has plans to develop systems for budget and mid-market hotels.

The company is confident once the name is established, customers will ask agents to book at hotels with the system.
