BTTF to debate importance of Internet for UK operators

THE IMPORTANCE of the Internet as a marketing tool for UKoperators will be a topic of debate at next month’s British Travel Trade Fair.

Paul Richer, senior partner at Genesys, the Travel Technology Consultancy, is conducting a seminar called Winning Ways on the Web at the show. He will telling delegates how setting up a Web site can improve sales for businesses of all sizes.

“What is exciting about the Web is how it evens out the playing field between the large operators and the many independent suppliers,” he said.

As a site can be developed for between £2,000 and £3,000 it can be used as an affordable marketing tool but it is important sites are designed by people who understand the intricacies of the travel trade, Richer added. Digital TV still remains out of the price range of smaller operators but will become important, said Richer.

“Not only will people be more comfortable with digital technology but whole families can gather around a TV set and look at destinations.”

The BTTF is at the Birmingham NEC on March 22 and 23.
