Fam trip stranded by USattacks

Stuck: terrorist attacks forced a fam trip to stay on in the Yukon

The attacks on New York and Washington left a First Class Holidays fam party stranded in the Canadian wilderness for three-and-a-half days.

The party of eight agents was preparing to leave the Tagish Lake Resort in the Yukon on the morning of the attack.

First Class Holidays sales manager and host of the trip John Drogan said: “We were getting ready to leave when we were told what was happening, so we turned the TV on.

“It was surreal being in such a remote resort watching such destruction, but there was little else we could do.”

Drogan’s priority was to get the agents home as soon as possible, but this meant waiting for flights to resume. In contrast to some New York hoteliers who raised their rates following the crisis, the Tagish Lake Resort let the group stay on for free.

“It shows that in times of crisis, the Canadians really do pull together,” said Drogan.

“When we eventually got to the capital, Whitehorse, Sheila Norris from Yukon Tourism came to the hotel to make sure we were OK. She took us for dinner and drinks afterwards – that really made a difference – I was impressed,” he added.

Despite the traumas, Drogan declared the trip a success.

“It was excellent – the scenery, the wildlife – and we’ve already had some great feedback from the agents,” he said.
