AGENTS will receive enhanced commission payments, educationals and discounts on holidays as part of a new campaign from Cyprus specialist Cyplon Holidays.
Initiative 2000 has been launched by the operator to cement its relationship with around 500 independent agents who actively sell the product.
The operator is ploughing around £100,000 into the scheme.
While all other agents will continue to receive brochure file copies, the top sellers will be rewarded with a range of incentives.
Managing director Harry Hajipapas insisted that despite the hype surrounding the Internet, agents will remain its most important form of distribution.
“We are dependent on the trade and are geared to sell through travel agents,” he said. “We want to maintain that but we are possibly trying to deal with too many agents. You cannot be everything to everyone.”
Letters have already been sent to 500 agents but Hajipapas said there is no restriction on numbers.
“Any agent that wants to commit to selling Cyplon will be more than welcome,” he said. “Initiative 2000 is not designed to exclude anyone but to forge closer links with our retail partners.
“When we first started 27 years ago there was only one or two other operators in our field. Today there are several which makes it extremely competitive.
“Travel agents have the power to sell a product and unless you have a relationship this can be difficult.”
Cyplon is planning to run 10 educationals to Cyprus with the first due to take place in the spring.
Trips will be more relaxing than the usual 10-hotels-a-day educationals, said Hajipapas.
