Home Office raises passport price to £30

HOLIDAYMAKERS will have to fork out £30 for their 10-year passport from January 2002.

The Home Office has put the price of the passport up from £28 to £30 with fast-track 48-hour services doubling to £60 and emergency passports costing £70. Children’s five-year passports will increase by £1.20 taking the price to £16.

It is hoped the price increase will cover debts run up when a computer system introduced in 1999 crashed, forcing 500,000 people to wait up to 50 days for their passports.

A Home Office spokesman said:”It will be the first increase in passport fees for two years and compared to the price of going abroad it still represents value for money.”
