Worldchoice stands firm on commissions

WORLDCHOICE has vowed to stand firm against tiered
commission deals despite operators’ claims they are inevitable in the long
term.

Chairman Colin Heal said tiered deals would undermine
the consortium, which agents join to gain from the benefits of a larger group.

Despite this, at least one Worldchoice agent was in
favour of tiered deals.

London-based Travelwise director Jonathan Levine said:
“I think base commission for all agents should go to 5% and operators should
pick the ones they want to give added value to. It would change the retail
market overnight.”

Specialist Holidays Group sales director Iain Fenton
said: “I’d be surprised if we don’t go down that road in the next two years.
For too long people have not been prepared to talk about it.”
