From 2003: Jobs under threat at Jetset Flights

**This story was published in 2003**

NEARLY 100 jobs could go at MyTravel’s scheduled seat-only arm Jetset Flights as the company looks at ways to avoid closure.

A 30% downturn in business over the past three years, an increase in on-line bookings and the decision to phase out flight-only technology used by Jetset are all being blamed for the current crisis, according to Matt Cheetham, managing director of Flextravel, Jetset’s umbrella brand.

Going Places staff will switch from the Matchmaker booking system to TravelCat in the autumn, but will lose Flightmatch – the scheduled seat-only booking arm of Matchmaker used for Jetset Flights.

A total of 98 staff at the Enfield-based company are entering a 30-day consultation period, which means unless a financially viable alternative to Flightmatch is found, the business will close.

Jetset Flights managing director David Partington and commercial director John Bond stand to lose their jobs along with call centre, reservations, ticketing and fulfillment staff.
