US blackout hits flights

THE massive electricity blackout in the US has caused
havoc to airlines, forcing scores of flights to be cancelled.

Over 50 million people were left without electricity
in the Eastern US states and parts of Canada, with airports also suffering.

British Airways had to cancel nine flights last night
and a further five today, with around 1,500 passengers affected.

Virgin Atlantic also had to cut flights with one
aircraft turning round two hours after leaving Heathrow.

Canadian officials blamed the
fire on a fire at a power plant near Niagra.
