n Travelworld buys six harry shaw shops



Travelworld has acquired six branches of West Midlands-based Harry Shaw Travel for an undisclosed sum. The Airtours-owned chain is rebranding agencies in Coventry, Warwick, Daventry, Rugby and Birmingham as Travelworld and is retaining all staff. Harry Shaw/City Cruiser holidays, a separate tour operation, is not part of the deal and will move to a site in Coventry early next year.



n sabre to become an independent company



Globaldistribution system supplier Sabre is to become an independent company next year following parent organisation AMR’s decision to sell its 83% stake. The move will mean Sabre will sever all ties with sister company American Airlines which remains part of AMR, and will give it a better chance to bid for rival business.



n Long to retire from



P&0 after 35 years



P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises sales liaison manager Mike Long has retired after 35 years with the company. Long joined P&O in 1961 as a junior administrative assistant and became responsible for the annual agent roadshows. He will be replaced in the new year.



n Continental and klm extend co-operation



ContinentalAirlines and KLM have signed an agreement to implement codesharing, airport co-operation and joint marketing. The deal, to be in place by the second quarter of 2000, brings Continental further into the KLM-led Wings alliance.



n Gray Dawes travel sets up central site



Business travel agency Gray Dawes Travel has set up a national reservations centre housing all its divisions in Colchester. Previously the divisions were in different locations.
