What is the accommodation like and is it expensive?


There are plenty of chain hotels but most people prefer to stay in rustic accommodation. Lodges and bed-and-breakfasts can be found all over. During summer when the cruise ships arrive, accommodation can double in price, particularly in Anchorage. Spring and autumn are cheaper times to visit.


What can I do in Alaska?


Most Alaska clients are interested in watching wildlife, fishing, walking, hiking or climbing, which can be combined with a flydrive.


Where can I see bears?


Bears generally don’t like to be seen and you will not normally bump into them. However, they can be found at certain times of the year in specific areas such as Denali and Katmai. There are tour companies that guarantee sightings.


What will the weather be like?


The climate varies from region to region. Most people travel in the south central area, which includes the Inside Passage and Anchorage, where the climate is not dissimilar to the UK.


Where can I see the Northern Lights?


The interior and the northern part of Alaska are the best locations but you can also see them on a clear winter’s night in Anchorage.


What is the Marine Highway?


The Marine Highway is a ferry system which is used year-round to transport people and vehicles around Alaska’s coastal areas and supports the state’s limited road infrastructure.
