VIRGIN Atlantic is eyeing Brisbane and Melbourne as its
next Australian routes from the UK, following the launch this week
of its London-Sydney service, via Hong Kong.
Speaking from Sydney, just after Virgin’s inaugural
Australia flight touched down, chairman Sir Richard Branson said he
is still awaiting approval from Hong Kong to operate additional
frequencies down to Australia. If approval is not given, Virgin
will look at flying via Bangkok instead.
Sir Richard said Virgin won’t make a profit on its new
London-Sydney route for three to four years.
