Module 8: Flora and Fauna, Conservation and the Environment

In this module we’ll be testing your knowledge of the flora and fauna to be found in the Cayman Islands.

The Cayman Islands are, quite simply, a birdwatcher’s and nature-lover’s dream. Visitors can stroll in search of unique Cayman blue iguanas, Cayman parrots, indigenous woodpeckers and lizards in Grand Cayman’s Elizabeth II Botanic Park, or venture on a testing trail to the heart of a primeval forest in the 241-acre Mastic Reserve on the north side of the island. And wherever they journey, your customers are guaranteed to a riot of year-round colour provided by trailing bougainvillea, native orchids, bromeliads and thatched palms.

We’ll also be looking to test your knowledge of the conservation policies in place to protect the environment.

In the Cayman Islands, we’re extremely proud of the fact that our country is not just friendly, but environmentally friendly.  Our waters are protected by strict Marine Conservation laws that prohibit harming or collecting any marine life.  Meanwhile, on land, a number of nature reserves have been established to protect the natural habitat of a variety of flora and fauna.

Tell your customers to look out for the “green flash” – a rare Caribbean phenomenon that occurs over the sea during a totally cloudless sunset at the very moment that the last tip of the sun disappears over the horizon.

To prepare for the test at the end of this module, please take time to read the information on this page.  You will also need to spend time navigating the Cayman Islands, the www.naturecayman.comand the Dive Caymanwebsites.  Please pay particular attention to the following sections:
