First EasyHotel opens in London

EASY tycoon Stelios Haji-Ioannou has opened the first EasyHotel in London today, offering rooms from £20 a night.

The hotel in South Kensington has 34 rooms which come in three sizes; small, very small and tiny, according to an EasyHotel press release.

All but three of the rooms do not have windows and those that do are sold at premium rates. An EasyHotel spokesman said sales through its Internet site are going well despite no advertising or marketing but there are no plans to offer agents a net rate, like it does with EasyCruise.

“If agents want to sell EasyHotel, they can make a booking and charge clients a fee. A hotel room is a much more straightforward sell than a cruise which is ideal for an agent to put together as a package,” he said.

Decorated in distinctive EasyGroup orange, all rooms have pay-as-you-go television, air conditioning and towels, there are no public areas other than a manned reception desk or restaurant. A franchise for a second hotel in Basel, Switzerland, has already been signed up.
