New media launch for online travel

TODAY marks the official launch of a media brand aimed at the online travel industry.

Travolution, published by Travel Weekly’s owner Reed Business Information, will comprise a magazine with digital edition, website, e-news service plus a series of webcasts and events – all debating and analysing the big issues impacting travel companies looking to drive business via the web.

Travolution publisher Simon Ferguson said: “The online travel market is now mature and warrants a media brand of its own. Travolution will help agents, online retailers, travel portals and suppliers build successful businesses in today’s multi-channel world.”

In each issue, the travel agent who can demonstrate significant business growth online will be named Travolution’s “sm@rt agent of the month”. As well as targeting agents looking to expand their businesses via the web, Travolution will be read by people working for tour operators, airlines, hotels, search engines, web marketing specialists, technology and recruitment firms.

This week, Travolution’s editorial executive board met to discuss the challenges facing online travel and help shape the brand’s activities. The debate was filmed for a series of webcasts, with the first broadcasting today.

Brent Hoberman, board member and chief executive officer of Lastminute.com and Travelocity Europe, welcomed the launch as “great news for the travel industry”.

Travolution has also started a blog where staff working in online travel can share thoughts with others in the sector. To add comments, go to http://travolution.blogspot.com.

Travolution launch editor and Travel Weekly editor Martin Lane said: “The days when agents saw the web as a threat rather than an opportunity are long gone, but it’s still a complicated animal.

Travolution will make sense of it all and help readers take full advantage of the opportunities it creates.
