Introduction

Abu Dhabi as a destination offers so much to visitors, that it is often difficult to know where to begin!

The ultimate decision will of course be based on the individual interests of the visitors, but holidaymakers will be spoiled for choice.

This module contains the top twenty things to do in Abu Dhabi, based both on popularity and also our personal favourites and recommendations!

We are sure they will offer your clients a true taste of the diverse and interesting options available in Abu Dhabi and are a useful reference point when discussing a holiday with prospective visitors.

1. The Corniche
Explored by walking along the promenade or cruising along the shoreline, this beautiful area of Abu Dhabi is the heart and soul of the city

2. Heritage Village
Trace the dramatic transformation of Abu Dhabi at this museum spread over 1,600 square metres

3. Desert safari
Explore the desert and enjoy the thrill of a 4×4 dune drive and a barbecue at a traditional desert camp

4. Shisha on the Breakwater
A popular and relaxing past time usually savoured in a local cafe while chatting to friends

5. Souk shopping
Soak up the rich sounds, sights and aromas of these traditional markets

6. Al Ain Oasis
This huge oasis is a fertile wonderland of palm plantation, many of which are still working farms

7. Sail away in a Dhow
Large groups can charter their very own dhow, or simply join a sunset cruise on an organised dhow from the Corniche and enjoy a spectacular view of the Abu Dhabi skyline from the ocean

8. Liwa
See for yourself the majestic sand dunes, completely devoid of vegetation, surrounding one of the Arabian Peninsula’s largest natural oases

9. Sir Bani Yas Island
A breeding and conservation reserve for indigenous UAE fauna and other desert animals. This tranquil getaway is only accessible by organised tours

10. Relax
Abu Dhabi has many luxurious hotels with excellent facilities and restaurants, so many visitors to the emirate will be attracted by the year round sunshine, beaches, warm turquoise seas and top class dining

11. Hot water springs
Enjoy the beauty and greenery at the base of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, and relax in one of the many natural hot water spas

12. Enjoy a shawarma
All around the city you will find food stalls selling shawarma (rolled pita bread filled with lamb or chicken – carved from a spit – and served with salad)

13. Emirates Palace
One of the most spectacular hotels in the world, in one of the greatest settings

14. Abu Dhabi Airport
This unique and colourful airport has all of the charm and appeal that most modern international airports lack

15. Play a round of golf
With year round sunshine, just a short flight from the UK and even a floodlit course, why not enjoy a round of golf in this great destination?

16. Watch a falconry show
Play spectator to the sport of sheikhs at one of the many shows across Abu Dhabi

17. Get active
With so many great sporting facilities, visitors can keep active and fit!

18. Visit the old prison at Al Ain
Located near the ‘coffee pot’ roundabout, the old prison is a square turret in a gravel courtyard, which has great views of the surrounding town and oasis

19. Take in the view at the top of Jebel Hafeet
This mountain rises from the city of Al Ain, and offers spectacular views over the surrounding area. An evening meal in the hotel at the top of the mountain offers fantastic night views

20. Buy a camel!
Al Ain is home to one of the only remaining camel markets in the world – and whilst we wouldn’t recommend actually buying a camel – it is a great place to watch the locals indulge in a tradition
