THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is a typical Airtours in-flight meal. Looks tasty, doesn’t it?
Vacuum packed and reheated it may be – but award-winning nevertheless.
We only mention it after our story last week about an Airtours sandwich caused more than a pitta bother – and had our nice pals at MyTravel crying for their naans.
You’ll remember, we told how Thomson agent Katie McGowan sent us the sarnie her client had been served on a flight to Majorca. They’d brought it back to complain it wasn’t worth the £5 in-flight meal charge they paid.
Apparently we hadn’t, erm, bean fair. “It’s common knowledge Airtours customers usually fly MyTravel Airways and enjoy award-winning hot meals on board and it’s not just a sandwich,” said Airtours Holidays director of sales Jane Atkins.
“However, like other tour operators, Airtours uses third-party airlines to fly customers and therefore cannot always guarantee the same cuisine.”
It seems MyTravel is so concerned about the state of the meagre sarnie it’s launched a probe into the quality of grub served up in their name. And there’s a particularly close eye being paid to charter carrier LTE – the offending airline in this case. So far, though, Airtours won’t confirm that it is ordering third-party airlines to serve up a hot meal.
You could say it’s a case of stalemate. Like the sandwich!
