BOOKINGS for Sharm el-Sheikh are showing signs of an early recovery following this summer’s terrorist attacks.
GB Airways has launched a thrice-weekly service to the Egyptian destination from Gatwick and is already posting strong forward bookings, according to managing director John Patterson.
He said: “Booking levels have increased in the past month, as is typical with short lead-in times nowadays.”
Patterson added: “We anticipate volumes this winter should reach our expectations and we’re hopeful we may even exceed them as the season progresses.”
A Thomson spokesman said bookings to the resort for the operator have bounced back, with an increase in year-on-year sales.
“The reduction in hotel rates in August and early September played a role in creating this demand,” said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, Kuoni managing director Sue Biggs expects a market upturn following the airing of the six-part BBC series, Egypt, which started last weekend.
