ABTA promises more financial transparency – 30 Nov 2006

ABTA has promised it will be more transparent about where its money is spent following criticism of its finances at the ABTA convention this week.

Association chief executive Mark Tanzer said he intended to list where association’s money was spent on its website so members could see where the funds went.

He added “We are very stringent in terms of overheads and are looking at reducing overheads where possible.”

He said the organisation was expecting to earn up to £80,000 by letting out the top two floors of its headquarters which it has now vacated.

Tanzer said a lack of understanding about what ABTA does and where the money went was fuelling criticism of the way the organisation used its funds.

He said the association provided not only tools of the trade and other important services, such a legal advice, but was a brand trusted by consumers.

He added ABTA was “not at war” with the CAA and the groups needed to work together to produce good guidelines about ATOLs as soon as possible.

Tanzer said ABTA would continue to lobby the Government on behalf of the industry.
