Midconsort Elite is to overhaul its management structure and replace former chief executive Charles Eftichiou with a general manager.
Eftichiou left the consortium to head S8’s new Connoisseur Independent Travel Club earlier in the year and Midconsort Elite members rejected a proposal to join.
Chairman Neil Basnett said the general manager will be chosen from a shortlist of up to five “high-profile candidates from the travel agency and tour operator sectors”.
“I know the person who I want to take over and hope to make the announcement before Christmas,” Basnett said.
The chief executive’s responsibilities will be divided between the general manager and a new business development manager, with the eight board members, including four newly-appointed members, taking on more responsibility.
Eftichiou drew a lot of criticism during the conference.
Vice chairwoman Sally Carrick said: “Last year the chief executive made many promises but progress didn’t follow and the board got frustrated.”
Basnett added he was dismayed the consortium had not spent money it had received from operators for marketing.
Eftichiou said: “I’m being used as a scapegoat for the fact that an unwieldy, large board was causing problems that prevented progression.”
