GO chief executive Barbara Cassani is set to reverse the airline’s direct-sell policy and start paying ‘compensation’ to agents.
Cassani will use Monday’s business session at the ABTA Convention in Cairns to outline the financial rewards Go is prepared to pay to supportive agents, who currently charge a service fee to book the airline. She declined to reveal details.
The scheme is expected to give retailers payments for increasing bookings and promoting new flights.
Ironically the change comes as parent British Airways is considering replacing commision with service fees (Travel Weekly November 15). Cassani shares the ABTA stage with British Midland chairman Sir Michael Bishop and Qantas deputy chief executive Geoff Dixon to discuss the relationship between agents and airlines.
