Bristol airport re-opens – 8 Jan 2007

Bristol International Airport’s resurfaced runway re-opened at 10.25am today after it was closed yesterday to carry out engineering work.

The first flight to land was Continental Airways from New York.

The runway re-opened after successful engineering work was undertaken overnight. The work was to improve water drainage from the 300 metre section of temporary surface on part of the runway being resurfaced. It closed yesterday at 2.30pm.

Flights will return to normal over the next 24 hours. In total 385 flights and 25,000 passengers have been affected by the runway problems since Friday, when EasyJet was the first airline to cancel flights to and from the airport followed by 10 other carriers.

Passengers are being advised to check with their airline, tour operator or travel agent to confirm flight details or visit www.bristolairport.co.uk.
