Travel chiefs have vowed to continue working with the trade’s Sector Skills Council People 1st despite criticism it has neglected the industry’s needs.
Although not originally due to be at a crisis meeting with a travel delegation last week, People 1st chief executive Brian Wisdom and chief operating officer David McMattie did attend. Originally, only southwest regional manager John Chapman was scheduled to be there.
Institute of Travel and Tourism chairman Steven Freudmann said he was encouraged by the high-profile People 1st presence.
“They sent down the A team. It’s the most contact the industry has had with them for 12 months,” said Freudmann who promised dialogue between the industry and People 1st would not break down as it had in the past. “Co-operation will be the way forward for the future,” he added.
Wisdom declined to comment on the meeting.
