ABTECH and Genesys prepare travel technology conference

ABTA’s technology advice service ABTECH and travel technology consultancy Genesys are to hold a joint conference on the future of selling travel.

The one-day conference, entitled Century 21 – New Business Models in Travel, will be held at ABTA’s headquarters in Newman Street, London, on December 8.

Topics will include the success or otherwise of new e-commerce travel ventures and how to launch an on-line company. There will also be a discussion on whether these methods will steal market share from existing businesses.

Speakers include Brent Hoberman, managing director of lastminute.com; Karen Gee, UK marketing director at eDreams; Penny Gray, business development manager at EMAP Online, which operates Bargainholidays, 1ski.com and escaperoutes.net; Richard Downs, chief executive officer of ski and snowboarding Internet site IGLU.com; and Andrew Weir, chief information officer at ebookers.com.

Interactive TV will also be up for discussion at the event. Christina Convis, travel channel manager at NTL Interactive, and Will Vicary, sales manager at British Sky Broadcasting’s interactive TV service Open, are booked as speakers.

Lastly, QXL travel product director Marc Charron will talk about running an on-line auction house.
