Environmental sustainability is not high on the agenda for business travellers, according to a survey by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and expense management provider KDS.
The results, released at this week’s Business Travel Show in Earl’s Court, London, found that less than a third (32%) of respondents have travel policies that promote sustainable travel while 35% said that their company was developing a policy in this area.
A number of other respondents said there was still a long way to go before they have a policy in place to monitor and manage carbon emissions. Overall, environmental sustainability was felt to be a low priority for companies, with employee security and cost reduction ranking higher.
81% of respondents said employee security was the top concern, cost came in at number two with 77% rating it as a high priority. Only 45% said environmental sustainability was of high importance.
Only 23% of those surveyed said their companies had suggested a reduction in travel to cut carbon emissions.
The ACTE/KDS survey was carried out in December 2006 and January 2007 on 207 travel managers and business travellers.
