Awards honour women who ‘Shine’ in the travel industry -14 March 2007

Senior women across the travel industry have been honoured at an award ceremony dedicated to females in tourism and hospitality.


At the third annual Shine People and Places Awards, Kuoni managing director Sue Biggs scooped Shine Woman of the Year, while Maxjet Airways managing director Carolyn Moxon won Business Woman of the Year for companies of more than 250 employees, VisitBritain England sales and trade marketing manager Claire Hancer was awarded Public Sector Woman of the Year and Knock Travel received the accoldade for Company of the Year.


Other winners were: New Park Manor Hotel and Spa general manager Leigh Jenkins won Young Achiever of the Year; Glaziers Hall managing director Janice Weiner won Business Woman of the Year for a company with less than 250 staff; Edwards and Blake director Shirley Edwards won Business Owner of the Year; and Business in Sport and Leisure chief executive Brigid Simmonds won Industry Expert of the Year.


Shine People and Places joint managing director Gaby Marcon, referring to both the winners and those nominated for awards, said: “Many of these women have gone on to become role models for many other women in the industry.”


Shine announced the launch of an industry-wide mentoring scheme for women at the event.
