Profit boost for Flyglobespan ahead of expansion – 27 Mar 2006

Low fares airline Flyglobespan saw pre tax profits of £4.7 million for 2006 as it plans to increase its routes this year.

The Scottish airline also said it saw passenger numbers rise 34% from 1.35 million to 1.81 million in the past year and turnover for the Globespan Group increase by 27% – from £163 million to £208 million.

The company increased its fleet of aircraft and expanded by launching flights out of Liverpool in the past year.

Scheduled services to Boston, Toronto and Vancouver will launch in May and the airline is also expanding its short-haul programme from Aberdeen and Durham Tees Valley.

Chairman Tom Dalrymple said: “Air travel is a hugely competitive market and with the price of airline fuel still dangerously high and liable to more fluctuation, we must keep our guard up.

“But we are committed to more expansion. By the end of this year, the Flyglobespan fleet will have grown to 19 aircraft – which I think is a remarkable testimony to our business model.”
