Zoom begins London to New York service – 21 June 2007

Zoom Airlines launched its London Gatwick to New York JFK service today with prices starting at £129 one-way including taxes.

The airline says it has already taken 10,000 passenger bookings for the service, which has five direct flights per week using Boeing 767-300s. It also claims its fares for the route are up to 71% cheaper than those of Virgin and BA.

Zoom co-owner John Boyle said the new service heralded the beginning of  “a new low-cost era”.

He said: “People have been forced to pay outrageously high fares to fly between London and New York for too long.

“The prices charged by BA, Virgin and the American carriers on the New York route are virtually inseparable and it is high time that passengers had a better deal.”
