Devere to close for upgrade

The Harrington Group of Hotels is to close the Devere Hotel in London next year for a major renovation.

The revamp aims to bring the hotel up to the same standard as the group’s three other properties in the capital.

Purchased last year, the Devere is located opposite Kensington Palace but is currently rated three-star.

Operations director for the group said:”We want to bring it in line with our deluxe four-star properties.”

Over an 18-month period the hotel will be gutted completely at a cost of between £5m and £10m and rebuilt to create 76 suites, conference facilities and a restaurant.

The Westbury, a 240-room property on Bond Street purchased in May this year, is also due to be upgraded.

Rooms will be refurbished and fitted with five telephone points each.

The group operates four hotels following the opening of the 170-room Kingsway Hall in London’s Covent Garden in September this year.

“We are planning to take on other properties. Our target is 1,000 rooms in London. We currently have about 700,” said Patterson.
