Big four lose out in Abta elections – 27 June 2007

The big multiples have failed to get representation on the Abta board for the first time in its election history.

Instead, Britaly Travel partner Daniele Broccoli has been elected to represent agents with a turnover below £20 million, while Co-operative Travel Trading Group COO Mike Greenacre will represent those with a turnover of £20 million plus.

Meanwhile, Sunvil Holidays managing director Noel Josephides won the race to represent principals with less than £50 million turnover, with Cosmos Holidays’ overseas, purchasing and special products director Hugh Morgan voted in to represent those with turnover above £50 million.

However, Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer pointed out that the multiples could still gain representation on the board.

The four elected members have the power to choose two more members, with an additional post that can be filled by someone from outside the industry.

“The new, flexible board structure means the board can appoint additional directors to ensure Abta can truly and fully represent the interests of the travel industry now and in the future,” said Tanzer, adding, “The directors chosen by our members provide a range of depth of experience and expertise that’ll serve Abta well in the years to come.”
