A travel meta search engine that has introduced a carbon offsetting tool is already seeing nearly one in five customers use the facility.
Global Travel Market chief executive Dave Simmons said the tool, built by carbonresponsible.com, was added to bizclasstravelmarket.com earlier this month.
Already 19% of users on the meta search site, which specialises in business and first class flights, are using the carbon calculator and offsetting their emissions.
Simmons said: “We have been very encouraged by the positive response of the business-class consumer to our carbon offset facility.
“Global Travel Market understands the impact of travel on the environment and the need for greater awareness and education in this area.”
The move has also been welcomed by airlines and agents using the site.
Silverjet marketing manager Tamarah Khatib said: “Bizclasstravelmarket.com’s carbon offset proposition allows Silverjet to demonstrate to its customers just what a key concern the environment is to the airline.”
