Maldives reports ‘business as usual’ following bombings

The Maldives government has reported the bombing in the nation’s capital over the weekend – injuring 12 tourists – has had no effect on UK tourism.

Deputy minister for tourism Zakariyya Hameed said UK tour operators had reported “no noticeable cancellations” following the attack on Saturday in Male’s Sultan Park.

A British couple from Qatar were injured and police have now arrested 10 suspects in connection with the bombing.

The Maldivian government claimed the incident would have little future impact on the country’s tourism trade, with one resort per island meaning it would be difficult for terrorists to succeed in effecting a major attack.
