Zimbabwe tourism session cut from WTM

The Institute of Travel and Tourism has scrapped an educational session by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority due to be held at World Travel Market.

ITT commercial director Ande Soteri said: “Unfortunately, given its political situation we can’t promote the country as a holiday destination.”

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is currently advising against visiting high-density, low-income urban suburbs of the country.

Its website advises: “These areas are subject to curfews and are patrolled by riot police and other militias who have been reported to be using brute force against people found on the streets. Sudden unpredictable violence is likely.”

The sessions for new entrants to the industry were scheduled for November 14 and 15. They will be replaced by another tourism authority.
