Comment: Show us your travel knowledge as an Agent Reporter

Travel Weekly editor Sarah LongbottomHave you ever read a review of a destination or product you have experienced and thought that you could do better? Well, now’s your chance.

The Travel Weekly Agent Reporter scheme allows you the opportunity to give your personal and honest view of a destination, hotel, cruise ship or anything else, anywhere you go. This means you will be communicating with other travel agents, providing information straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.

The agent reports will encourage a deeper understanding of products, which will make them easier to sell. With today’s staffing issues and increased competition, it is becoming more difficult for agents to leave their shop to take the time to experience a holiday product and/or destination for themselves. Unfortunately, the ‘good old days’ of attending numerous fam trips in a year are long gone.

With the agent reporter scheme, you – and importantly, other agents across the country – will get more out of any trip or visit you take, as it provides a platform for sharing knowledge and experience. So sharpen your pencils and start chasing those stories!

Big sale proves importance of product knowledge

How many opportunities do you have to make a really big booking – and I’m talking thousands of pounds in one hit? In this week’s issue, we report on one agent who made a huge sale worth £62,000. This was for a round-the-world cruise for a couple.

With a real show of confidence and flair, the agent talked the couple through their options with the result that they upgraded their original request for a room to a suite.

This is a great example of how knowing your product and learning about your customers’ needs can help you to exceed their expectations.
