More flights axed from London airports

More flights from Heathrow and Gatwick have been cancelled today after fog caused travel chaos and left thousands of holidaymakers stranded over the weekend.

A total of 30 departures and 34 arrivals have been cancelled at Heathrow, mainly affecting short-haul flights. The flights were scheduled to depart from terminals one and four to destinations including Paris, Edinburgh, Barcelona and New York.

Five British Airways domestic and short-haul flights from Gatwick and six departures from London City airport have also been cancelled. Airports in other parts of the UK are mainly keeping to schedule.

Passengers are urged to check with the airport before flying. A spokesman for Heathrow said the situation would improve now that the fog has lifted.

Hundreds of flights across the UK were cancelled over the weekend as fog descended just in time for the Christmas getaway.
