UK visitors have driven a 13.6% rise in tourist numbers in Cape Verde, new figures show.
British tourists make up 20.5% of visitors to the archipelago, according to the country’s National Statistics Institute..
Germany accounts for 11.1% while visitors from Portugal and France account for 10.1% each.
Visitors from the UK were also likely to spend the most time on the islands, staying an average of nine nights.
The island of Sal, known for its white beaches and colourful villages was the most popular with tourists, followed by Boa Vista.
The figures come two months after the opening of luxury adult-only Llana Beach Resort. There are 600 rooms between Sensimar Cabo Verde by Tui and Melia Llana Beach Hotel, so can take more than 43,000 tourists per year.
Charlie King, chief operations director at The Resort Group plc, which is behind the resort, said: “It’s great to see that more people are discovering Cape Verde, though we’re not surprised as the islands have so much to offer.”
