More operators guarantee no fuel surcharges

More operators are guaranteeing the cost of holidays by offering a ‘no fuel surcharges’ policy following Sandals’ announcement last week that it would pay for all fuel charges.

Elite Island Resorts has launched its own ‘Fuel On Us’ campaign, in which it promises to pay the customer’s fuel surcharge bill on flights. Agents can book the offer through Elite or Kuoni and it expects more operators to sign up to its scheme in the next few weeks.

Elite Island Resorts managing director Paula Whitehead said: “This campaign is designed to drive bookings during what is going to be a difficult time ahead with airlines predicting an increase in costs.”

It is not just airlines guaranteeing holiday fuel costs. Peter Deilmann River Cruises has revealed it will not be adding fuel surcharges to its 2009 European cruises.

The cruise company unveiled the news while launching its 2009 European river cruises programme, which also offers additional options for customers within the cruise-only fare.

Sandals’ announcement last week signifies a saving on its holidays of up to £600 per couple. The guarantee applies to stays of 14-nights or longer booked before August 15.
