British nationals stranded in Thailand airport protest

The Foreign Office has confirmed that British nationals are stranded in Thailand due to the closure of its international airport in Bangkok.

Flights from Suvarnabhumi airport have been suspended after hundreds of demonstrators stormed the building in Bangkok claiming the government is hostile to the monarchy.

Reports claim the government is to hold and emergency cabinet meeting and the head of the army is set to make a statement.

A Foreign Office spokesman told travelweekly.co.uk: “A team of consular staff are at the airport offering assistance to those British that are affected.”
