P&O Cruises plans to appoint a “like-for-like” replacement for Shane Riley who has left the brand to join Virgin Voyages.
Alex White, P&O Cruises sales vice-president, revealed Rosy Sims, a senior business manager at P&O Cruises, will take over Riley’s responsibilities until a permanent replacement is found.
Riley will join Virgin Voyages on May 21 after leaving his role as director of trade engagement and onboard sales at P&O Cruises.
Riley will become director of international sales.
White said: “Over the next few weeks we will be looking for a like-for-like replacement.
“In the interim another member of the sales team will take on Shane responsibilities. That is very much an interim role.”
White thanked Riley for his “enormous contribution” to the Carnival brand and wished him “the best of luck” in his new role.
“I think we have successfully transformed our relationships with the trade,” White said. “It was a collective team effort, but Shane has been part of the leadership team that contributed a significant amount.
“He leaves on the best terms. I completely respect his decision. We are disappointed to see him go but it is a fantastic opportunity for him.”
Virgin Voyages will start operations in 2020 when the first of its new build vessels comes into service.
White said: “From my perspective any entrant to the market is exciting for the cruise industry.
“Our focus as a brand is not about competing it is about appealing to the wider holiday market that is how we [P&O Cruises] will be successful.
“That is where my focus is. It is not about competing within the cruise industry.”
