Travel Republic has slammed an adventure travel operator for its anti-chav stance.
The online travel agency has hit out at Activities Abroad after it sparked a storm last week by claiming in a news letter to 24,000 of its customers that it offers “chav-free activity breaks”.
It added that its customers would not encounter anyone named Britney, Kylie, Bianca, Tiffany, Dazza, Chardonnay, Chantelle, Candice, Courtney and Shannon while on an Activities Abroad holiday.
However, Travel Republic managing director Paul Furner claimed the stance was outrageous and is now pledging a 10% discount for anyone with one of the 10 listed names wishing to book through the online travel agent.
He added: “For a business to come out publicly, with such blatantly biased and offensive comments, and to describe their holidays as ‘chav free’, is simply outrageous.
“We actively encourage bookings from everyone, irrespective of their name and its perceived social standing.
“In fact we’re delighted to have 1,600 Shannons, 1,100 Courtneys, 600 Chantelles, 500 Kylies, 400 Tiffanys, 300 Candices and 200 Britneys on our database, and to have two Candices, a Chantelle and a Dazza among our staff.”
The 10% discount is on offer for the next two weeks until February 11 and to take advantage of it anyone booking a break needs to enter the promotional code Dazza when making the booking.
