Agents from Barrhead Travel have been thanked by a customer they helped dig out from the snow to make sure they made their flight as the ‘Beast from the East’ polar vortex rattled Scotland.
Greig Avinou, director of Barrhead’s franchise in Falkirk, led a team of seven travel specialists to help clear snow from customers’ driveways with shovels.
Customers were those the agents knew were due to depart to sunnier climes imminently.
Their efforts led to one Falkirk customer who uses a mobility scooter making her flight to join a Caribbean cruise she had booked with Barrhead Travel, which shut most of its Scottish stores because of the severe weather conditions which led to the cancellation of flights from Glasgow airport.
Greig Avinou said: “Joyce is a highly valued and loyal customer of our Falkirk branch, it was the right thing to do to help her escape ‘snowmageddon’ and get to the sun. It was particularly important for us to help ensure Joyce got out of her home her during the snow disaster, as she required use of her disabled scooter.
“We weren’t open for business during the severe weather but all of the team are troopers and were up for getting stuck in with a shovel. Being able to go the extra mile for customers makes our job serving the community special.
“The reception we have experienced in the community following our help to customers in the snow just goes to show how important peoples’ holidays are to them.”
Joyce, who has now returned from her cruise and asked for her surname to remain anonymous, said: “I am so very grateful as, otherwise, I would have found it difficult to even get out the house.”
