A flight disruption warning has been issued for Fiji as a weather system developed into a cyclone.
Tropical Cyclone Keni is forecast to bring heavy rain and high winds as it passes to the south of the Pacific nation’s main island of Viti Levu.
“This will likely exacerbate the flooding and damage caused recently by Tropical Cyclone Josie. Expect rising river levels and the potential of flash flooding,” the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said in an updated travel advisory issued today.
“Avoid travel in low-lying areas and on flooded roads. Flights into and out of Fiji will be disrupted.”
Travellers were urged to follow the advice of the local authorities including any evacuation orders.
