Poole Harbour to accept cruise ships after £10m investment

Cruise ships will be able to operate from Poole Harbour with the opening of a £10 million new cruise berth.

Cruise & Maritime Voyages is offering departures from the port this summer following the development by Poole Harbour Commissioners.

Poole Harbour in Dorset is the largest natural harbour in Europe but has previously been limited to offering ferry services.

The new South Quay berth will be capable of handling ships with a capacity of up to 1,000 passengers with 25 calls scheduled for tis year.

The first ship to use the berth – US firm Grand Circle Cruise Line’s 98-passenger Cornithian – is due to dock on Sunday.

PHC chief executive Jim Stewart said: “We are confident that Poole will become a key port for cruise companies going forward.”
