Candidates in the forthcoming elections for ABTA’s board of directors are urging independent members to make sure they cast their votes by April 15 if they want their voices heard.
Following the March 18 deadline for nominations, just one vacancy remains for the category: retail with turnover of less than £20 million. The candidates are:
- Sandy Murray of Sandy Travel
- Doreen McKenzie of Knock Travel
- Daniele Broccoli of Britaly Travel
Sandy Travel proprietor Sandy Murray believes the time has come for women to break through ABTA’s glass ceiling. “We need a woman on the ABTA board and, if voted for, I will give 110% to ensure our voice is heard,” she said.
Knock Travel proprietor Doreen McKenzie’s message, despite the recession, is positive. “There are dozens of challenges facing smaller businesses but they have an advantage in that they are quicker at responding to change,” she said.
Current board member Britaly Travel managing director Daniele Broccoli emphasised his support for the association. “I’ve always believed in ABTA but I want to make sure it represents us properly,” he said.
ABTA is still seeking nominations for two vacancies for the Council of Regions for the southern and southwest regions.
ABTA president Justin Fleming will step down on April 29 after three years at the helm. Current board members are now welcome to propose and second candidates for the role.
