Barrhead Travel has launched a new web booking engine which connects directly with package operators rather than using viewdata networks.
Powered by Amadeus-owned TravelTainment, the technology is expected to make the booking process quicker and more efficient.
Barrhead Travel director Julie Taylor said: “TravelTainment technology provides the ability for our customers to find product quickly and book holidays using tour operators xml platforms.
“We believe that the consumers’ choice of booking package product online has been to date restricted due to the old standard viewdata connections. Now we have a system that can provide a quick and easy route to booking packages online.”
TravelTainment sales director Colin Mckee said the viewdata method made booking “slower and more cumbersome” for customers. More than 70 million package offers from 35 operators are available through the system and this number will grow.
He said: “Our tie up with the main brand operators is a major step forward in providing the alternative to booking through viewdata. The direct connectivity we now have in place with operators systems…will result in a quick, easy and more pleasurable route to booking a holiday online which should ultimately increase conversions.”
