Dedicated medical services for passengers are being introduced by Etihad Airways.
The two specialised services are designed for air travellers with pre-existing medical conditions to ensure continuity of care and in-flight safety, according to the UAE carrier.
The ‘one-stop-shop’ services will be carried out by members of the airline’s medical team, all qualified in aviation and transport medicine.
The first service allows passengers who require medical clearance prior to travel, the opportunity to request an Etihad aviation doctor to visit them and conduct an evaluation in consultation with their attending physician.
All medical forms and assessments will be completed by the Etihad doctor on-site, leading to a recommendation about their “fit to fly” status within one day.
The second service an in-flight nurse who can accompany passengers during their trip and provide medical support.
Etihad Airways’ vice president medical services, Dr Nadia Bastaki,
said: “Etihad is delighted to be the first airline in the region to provide these new medical services which will cater for guests who require medical assistance during their travel.
“Both services will help ensure our guests have a smooth and hassle-free journey, greatly removing unnecessary anxiety they sometimes feel when travelling.”
