Revamped Leeds Bradford airport opened by transport secretary

The first phase of a multi-million pound revamp of Leeds Bradford airport was opened yesterday by transport secretary Chris Grayling.

The departure area has been transformed with additional seating, new shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and executive lounges.

Grayling said: “Leeds Bradford airport is an important global gateway to Yorkshire, and this multi-million pound development will provide passengers from all over the world with an exceptional travelling experience to and from the region.

“We are working closely with Leeds Bradford airport to ensure it has what it needs to offer greater choices for passengers secure further international routes and deliver more investment opportunities as we leave the EU.

“And today I welcomed discussions with local businesses and leaders on our transport investment strategy for the region, and how we can work together to open up Yorkshire to new global opportunities.”

Airport chief executive, David Laws, added: “We have some exciting plans for the airport and want the people of our thriving region to get behind their airport to help us move forward. The more people use the airport the more successful we can be.

“Work continues to improve our route offering for both business and leisure services while we are now working on our plans for phase two of the terminal infrastructure which we hope to commence later this year on a new state of the art arrivals experience.”
